In the men's elite race, Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge smashed the course record with a time of 2:01:39, breaking the previous record set by Geoffrey Mutai in 2011 by over a minute. Kipchoge's performance was nothing short of exceptional, as he maintained a blistering pace throughout the race and pulled away from the rest of the field in the later stages.

His win also marked his fourth consecutive major marathon victory, cementing his status as one of the greatest marathon runners of all time.

In the women's elite race, it was a tight battle between defending champion Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia and Kenyan runner Brigid Kosgei.

Kosgei, who holds the women's world record for the marathon, managed to pull ahead in the final kilometers to win the race with a time of 2:17:08, just shy of her world record time.

Degefa finished second with a time of 2:17:28, an impressive performance that would have been good enough to win in most other years.

The wheelchair race also saw some record-breaking performances, with Swiss athlete Marcel Hug winning the men's race in a time of 1:18:49, breaking the previous course record by almost two minutes. American athlete Tatyana McFadden won the women's race with a time of 1:26:12, also breaking the previous course record.

The Boston Marathon is known not just for its fast times, but also for its emotional finishes, and this year was no exception.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the day came when runner Maickel Melamed, who has muscular dystrophy, crossed the finish line after over 20 hours on the course. Melamed, who had previously completed the marathons in Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, and New York, was cheered on by crowds of supporters as he made his way to the finish line.

Another emotional moment came when runner Sarah Sellers, who famously finished second in the 2018 Boston Marathon as an unknown amateur, returned to Boston to run the race once again.

Although she didn't manage to repeat her remarkable performance from 2018, she was still cheered on by crowds of supporters as she crossed the finish line.
